| This is a good low power 2” eyepiece for very wide field views of nebulas, open clusters, globular clusters, etc. You can use the calculator below to see just how wide the field will be with your particular scope. It works well with Dobsonian reflectors with 2” focusers, as its bright images and very wide field of view make it easy to locate faint deep space objects. Also, compared with the 50° field of a conventional Plössl eyepiece, its 70° field allows 40% more time to observe with a Dobsonian before an object drifts out of the field of view and the scope has to be repositioned to observe it again. The field of view is so wide that you will have to move your head from side to side to see all the image. It has a 6mm exit pupil with an f/5 reflector. This means that virtually any observer will be able to use its entire exit pupil. All of the light the scope gathers will enter the observer’s eye, with none of the scope’s light-gathering capacity being wasted. While its focal length is particularly well-suited for Dobsonian use, it can provide “picture window onto space” images with any telescope type that can use a 2” eyepiece. The barrel is threaded for 48mm filters. The eyepiece includes a bolt-style plastic eyepiece container to keep the eyepiece clean and dust free when not in use. The one pound weight of the eyepiece may require some scope rebalancing when used with Dobsonian scopes.
