| This is the simplest type of telescope mount. It has only up/down (altitude) and left/right (azimuth) motions. It is mainly found on low to medium power Dobsonian telescopes and on small refractors and reflectors that are used for terrestrial nature studies and casual astronomy, as it cannot easily follow at high powers the seemingly curved paths taken by celestial objects as they cross the sky. A telescope on this type of mount generally cannot be used for astrophotography. |
